Effective collaboration between Federal/State/Local Agencies and American Indian Tribal Agencies/Community Organizations
At Wičaŋpi Research & Consulting, we aim to provide exceptional services that empower our clients to achieve their strategic goals by fostering strong working relationships between American Indian Tribal Agencies and Local/State/Federal Offices.
We believe in a collaborative approach to consulting, where we work closely with our clients to understand their needs and develop effective methods for removing barriers to their success. We want to build long-lasting relationships that foster healthy client and colleague networks.
Our team of Yankton Sioux and Mdewakanton Sioux tribe members from diverse disciplines have decades of experience working with American Indian tribes and organizations, law firms, film and television crews, and government agencies in the United States. We combine our expertise to deliver innovative, well-thought-out plans and suggestions for our clients.
As Dakota Sioux, we believe we arrived on this planet from a faraway galaxy beyond the Milky Way and Orion. We sometimes refer to ourselves as Star People, so we named our firm "Wičaŋpi." The literal translation of "Wičaŋpi (wee chә pee)" from the Dakota language to English is "Star People." Inspired by the resilience of the Minnesota Mdewakanton Dakota Sioux, who overcame the bounties placed on them by the state of Minnesota from 1863 to 1886, we named our firm Wičaŋpi Research & Consulting and initially collaborated with law firms to provide factual and substantive evidence in cases brought by the lineal descendants of these survivors. Our goal was to help law firms successfully transform their constraints in litigating American Indian issues in federal courts.
Anthropology has a lot to offer a broad range of disciplines, including education, law, industry, healthcare, and social services. Our team at Wičaŋpi is dedicated to investigating systems of meaning, traditions, and culture. By working with us, our clients can access the best possible support while further acknowledging American Indian culture and heritage.
Our team of experienced consultants provides a range of services, including strategic planning, financial and data management, genealogical, archival, and ethnographic research, writing, editing, workshops, and training.
Wičaŋpi Research & Consulting uses qualitative data and years of experience with collaborative research to develop solutions that equally value all involved parties' perspectives. This culturally sensitive method ensures diversity and mutual understanding.
